The founder of the upscale Italian fashion business Gucci, Guccio Gucci, was Maurizio Gucci’s grandfather. To actors Rodolfo Gucci and Sandra Ravel, he was the only child, and he was born on September 26, 1948, in Florence.
With his father’s passing, Maurizio became the company’s principal shareholder and immediately went to court with his uncle, Aldo Gucci, to assert his authority. Maurizio was initially found guilty of faking his father’s signature to avoid paying inheritance taxes, but he was eventually exonerated.
