Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Switch Employee Fired by Gamestop

At the end of the month of March, Nintendo made the announcement that it would be releasing an official Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom model for the Switch OLED. Although it was supposed to be a shocking revelation for the fans, information about the unit had already been made public on the internet.

Now, in a new development, it has come to light that one of the persons who had a role in this leak has lost his job as a result of breaking the policies of the organization he worked for. According to Kotaku, the person who goes by the name ‘Mike’ is a GameStop employee who, after the initial leak in December, uploaded a photo of the company’s inventory database. He did this in the hopes that the system would be revealed before Nintendo’s new gameplay footage for TotK.

On April 11th, almost two weeks after the showcase, Mike was terminated from his position. The allegations that Nintendo was able to track down the source of the leak to Mike via his Reddit and other social media accounts are where things start to get interesting. According to these allegations, Nintendo “forced the company’s hand” by requesting that the employee be fired because of the leak. According to Kotaku, the statements of one more GameStop employee lent credence to Mike’s story.

It would appear that Mike didn’t believe he would end up in hot water, and as a result, he “wasn’t really” trying to cover his tracks along the way. Mike’s manager told him over the phone that he would be fired, adding throughout the conversation, “This is your favorite company and now they hate you.” Ouch!

It is my sincere hope that the material presented in this post will be of great use to you in expanding your horizons of knowledge.
