Dwayne Haskins, a quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, passed away early on Saturday morning after being hit by a dump truck as he was crossing a South Florida highway. The age of Haskins was 24. Here’s everything you need to know about Steelers QB Death.
Haskins was declared dead at the site, according to Lt. Indiana Miranda, a spokesperson for the Florida Highway Patrol.
In a statement sent by email, Miranda stated that the man “was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 595 when there was approaching traffic.”
She didn’t explain why Haskins was travelling near Fort Lauderdale at the time on the highway. The incident resulted in the closure of the roadway for a number of hours, and Miranda stated that “an open traffic homicide investigation” was ongoing.
Along with the other quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers for the Steelers, Haskins was in South Florida for practise.
Mike Tomlin, the coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, released a statement saying, “I am shocked and speechless with the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins. “Upon moving to Pittsburgh, he rapidly assimilated into our Steelers family and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community. Dwayne was a fantastic teammate, but he was also a fantastic friend to a lot of people. I’m terribly broken-hearted.
“During this trying time, our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Kalabrya and his entire family.”
Haskins was selected by the Washington Commanders in the 2019 draught with the 15th overall pick following an outstanding 2018 year at Ohio State. Haskins signed with Pittsburgh before the 2017–18 season after two difficult seasons with Washington.
Owners of the Commanders Daniel and Tanya Snyder released a statement saying, “We are devastated to hear the news of the untimely demise of Dwayne Haskins Jr. “He was an energetic young man with lots of talent and a contagious attitude. We are devastated, and that is an understatement. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dwayne’s family members as well as everyone who knew and loved him.”
Dwayne was a gifted young guy with a long life ahead of him, according to Commanders coach Ron Rivera. “I honestly don’t know what to say at this point; it’s a very sad time. He will be deeply missed, and I know I can speak for the rest of our team when I say that. T.J. Watt, a linebacker with the Steelers, described Haskins as “an enthusiastic guy.”
Chase Claypool of the Steelers shared in an emotional tweet that he spent time with Haskins this weekend.
I had the privilege of being with you during your final minutes, and Claypool added, “I can’t help but think of how unselfish you were in those moments.” “I can’t say enough good things about you since all you cared about was making sure everyone around you was safe. You embody everything I try to be.”
Haskins was re-signed by the Steelers to a one-year contract as a restricted free agency in March after receiving plaudits from both head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert for his development since joining the organisation. He was anticipated to face off against Mitch Trubisky and Rudolph for a position.
Colbert stated in January, “We’re excited to see what Dwayne can give, either from competition, or maybe he matures as a starter.”

Urban Meyer, a former coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, tweeted on Saturday, “Heartbroken to hear of the loss of Dwayne Haskins Jr. “My heartfelt condolences to his amazing family. One of Ohio State’s all-time best quarterbacks, but also a fantastic son, teammate, and friend. Good luck!”
Before their game against the Washington Capitals on Saturday in the early afternoon, the Pittsburgh Penguins observed a moment of silence in memory of Haskins.
