In a video for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom that was shown at CinemaCon 2023, Mera, played by Amber Heard, made a short cameo. Warner Bros. Pictures gave a sneak peek of its future movies, including the next DC Studios projects, at a convention for people who work in the movie theater business.
Those who were there got to see the first video for the Aquaman sequel. It showed the return of Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, as well as Amber Heard as Mera. People haven’t been able to see the video yet.
There were rumors in June that Heard, who is 37, had been cut from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. At the time, a representative for the actress said, “The rumor mill continues as it has from day one — inaccurate, insensitive, and slightly insane.”

This report came out after a jury in Virginia mostly went with Heard’s ex-husband Johnny Depp in his case against her for defamation. Since then, she and Depp have made a deal, and neither side is going to try to change the verdict.
Heard testified at that trial that she “fought really hard to stay in” Aquaman’s sequel, even though “they didn’t want to include me in the film.” She also said that her role as Mera was “very pared down.”
She said on the stand –
“I was given a script and then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character — without giving any spoilers away — two characters fighting with one another, and they basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch out.”
In addition, Heard’s talent agent Jessica Kovacevic testified that Heard was given a lesser role in the sequel due to her “lack of chemistry” with Momoa, 43. Kovacevic, on the other hand, said that she thought the bad press and online attacks against Heard because of the Depp scἀndals were the reason why the studio turned away from her.
Walter Hamada, who used to be the head of DC Films at Warner Bros., said that neither Depp nor his lawyers said anything that changed Heard’s role in the second movie. He also said that people in the studio talked about how Heard and Momoa didn’t have “chemistry.”
Mera’s role in the “buddy comedy” sequel, which follows “co-leads” Momoa and Wilson, was always the same, he said. When asked what issues were had with Heard in the making of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Hamada said, “My understanding is actually the production went very smoothly.” The movie Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom comes out on December 20.
