Witcher Season 3 Release Date: With the arrival of The Witcher season 3, we will have seen Henry Cavill’s final appearance as Geralt of Rivia in his trademark blonde wig. When Netflix announced the fourth season, they also revealed that Liam Hemsworth, from The Hunger Games, would be taking over the role of monster hunter.

The third season of The Witcher has finished filming, and we know it will premiere in the summer of 2023. This season will focus on the Time of Contempt when Geralt and Yennefer are doing all they can to protect Ciri from the growing threats across the Continent.

However, despite these hints, there is still a great deal that we don’t know about the return of the popular series to Netflix. Neither the final outcome of Cavill’s Geralt nor its scheduled release date is known at this time. So, to help you sort through all the new information, we’ve analyzed everything that has been made public so far, as well as all the speculation surrounding The Witcher season 3.

Witcher Season 3 Release Date

Season 3 of The Witcher will premiere in the summer of 2023. Despite the lack of specificity, we can now expect the next Netflix season to drop between June and August of 2023.

The season has finished filming. Henry Cavill has even penned a special message for the event. The show is now in post-production, and we should hear more about a release date and possibly see a trailer next year.

Witcher Season 3 Trailer

To sum up, it might happen in the near future. The first two trailers for upcoming seasons of The Witcher both premiered in July, five months before the seasons’ December debuts. Now that we know the Summer 2023 window is set in stone, the earliest we can hope for a season 3 trailer is the end of 2022.

The release of The Witcher spin-off series Blood Origin on December 25 may provide further context for Season 3. After all, the first hint at this appeared in the second season of The Witcher’s post-credits scene.

The Witcher Season 3 Storyline

The Witcher season 3 story summary from Netflix: “Geralt hides Ciri of Cintra from Continent rulers, wizards, and animals to safeguard his newly reunited family. Yennefer guides them to the walled castle of Aretuza to learn more about Ciri’s untapped powers, where they find a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and betrayal. They must fight back, risking everything, or lose each other forever.”

The Witcher season 3 picks up where the second season left off: Nilfgaard, Redania, and the Northern rulers desire to capture or murder Ciri, the Lion Cub of Cintra. Francesca and the remaining elves want Ciri, who Geralt and Yennefer are protecting. Wars and factions will likely drive the season.

The Witcher season 3 may focus on betrayal. Jaskier serves Dijkstra and Redania, but Aretuza and its wizards seem divided. Yennefer and Geralt face difficulties.

The Wild Hunt momentarily transferred Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer in the season 2 finale. Though they may appear briefly in the following season, they may be the show’s endgame villains.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich tweeted that the forthcoming season will adapt Andrzej Sapkowski’s “Time of Contempt.” The first season adapted The Last Wish, while the second adapted A Grain of Truth and most of A Blood of Elves. Since the show deviates from the book, we won’t spoil it. Expect one of Geralt’s most violent battle sequences, Ciri’s odyssey, and The Rats’ arrival. Check out our Witcher book reading order to continue the story.

Season 3: many timelines? Hissrich told TheWrap, “Our seasons as a whole are really guided by the stories we want to convey” (opens in new tab). “Structure exemplifies. Season 2 didn’t need non-linear plots. We selected a linear approach, which allowed us to play with visions and memories that we couldn’t accomplish using timelines. Season 3 rocks. I found “The Time of Contempt” incredibly flexible. Plenty of action and jaw-dropping moments await. That drives our stories. Season 3 has a relatively short timeline. No need to waste time.”

During Netflix’s Unlocked show(opens in new tab), Geralt actor Henry Cavill revealed, “Season 3.” “Explore the Nenneke relationship. I want to work with the Witchers again. but it’s about keeping the tale on track.”
