Users of Twitter’s online platform first encountered the “doge” meme—an element of the logo for the Dogecoin blockchain and cryptocurrency—in 2013.
Elon Musk, CEO of microblogging service Twitter, is at it again, this time replacing the bluebird emblem that served as the website’s “home” button with the “doge” meme associated with the Dogecoin cryptocurrency.
On Monday, users of the web version of Twitter discovered the “doge” meme, which is a portion of the logo for the Dogecoin blockchain and cryptocurrency and was established as a joke in 2013.
Musk also posted a humorous image of the ‘doge’ meme (which depicts the face of a Shiba Inu) at the wheel of a car and explained to a police officer who appears to be looking at the driver’s license that the photo on it has been changed. Notably, Twitter’s mobile app has remained unchanged.
According to Variety, the doge image (of a Shiba Inu) is well recognized as the logo of the Dogecoin blockchain and cryptocurrency, which was developed in 2013 as a joke to poke fun at other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. The Twitter CEO also posted a screenshot of his interaction with the anonymous account asking to alter the bird logo to “doge” on March 26, 2022.
Musk tweeted this link with the caption “As promised.”

According to Variety, Musk is a well-known superfan of the Doge joke and has promoted Dogecoin both on Twitter and during his appearance as host of “Saturday Night Live” last year. Musk purchased Twitter last fall in a USD 44 billion deal. Dogecoin’s value increased by over 20% after Monday when Twitter updated its online logo.
Before launching his successful attempt to acquire Twitter, Musk tweeted about it in March 2022-
“Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy. What should be done?” Musk tweeted.
@WSBChairman had responded, “just buy Twitter… and change the bird logo to a doge.” Musk responded, “Haha that would be sick“.
