Expansion Pack for Switch Online will be getting one of the most beloved N64 titles this week. Nintendo announced in September that GoldenEye 007. Once January 27th rolls around, you can start playing the game on your Nintendo Switch. On the same day, Xbox owners may get their hands on the game.
Rarely do licensed games to make their way to Nintendo’s streaming service, so when GoldenEye 007 does appear, fans take notice (or even play for the first time). Whether or whether Rare’s original first-person shooter still holds up nearly 26 years after its N64 release is a big question. It’s to be hoped that Rare has fixed the game’s clunky controls and terrible framerate from the initial release.
GoldenEye 007 Is Coming To The Nintendo Switch And Xbox
This week, GoldenEye 007 will launch for Xbox One and Switch. GoldenEye 007 HD, developed by Rare and released for the Xbox, is a remake of the classic 1997 Nintendo 64 game of the same name.
Launching on both Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on January 27th, the former will have a remastered edition with 4K resolution, improved frame rates, and split-screen local multiplayer, among other enhancements.

Since Nintendo is using the original game, the Nintendo Switch version will be the only one with online multiplayer capabilities. The Xbox version of Microsoft’s “faithful reproduction” of GoldenEye 007 features local multiplayer for split-screen play with pals. As part of its Nintendo Switch Online service, Nintendo is publishing the GoldenEye 007 video game. In 2021, the service introduced support for N64 titles, but you had to spring for the expensive Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack plan to play them.
Xbox players may look forward to the standard story mode, as well as cheats, dual-analog control, and resolutions as high as 4K in its native 16:9 aspect ratio. Owning a digital copy of Rare Replay on Xbox already grants you access to GoldenEye 007 at no further cost. Xbox Game Pass subscribers will get access to the game, too.
A contract to produce an HD remaster on the Xbox 360 in 2008 was delayed due to licensing and copyright concerns, so GoldenEye 007 has been in development for quite some time. The original single-player campaign and local split-screen multiplayer will be available in the rumored 2021 Xbox HD remaster.
