Premiere of Star Trek Prodigy in Season 1
Episode 11 of Season 1 Part 2 of Star Trek: Prodigy, titled “Asylum,” premiered today. Season 12, episode 12 airs on November 3. After airing its midseason finale in February, the show went dark for eight months. What Can We Expect From The Second Season Of Star Trek: Prodigy?
The holographic Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) ultimately gave her life to save the Protostar’s crew in the season one finale of Star Trek: Prodigy. In the end, her sacrifice prevented the destruction of the entire galaxy.
Selfless acts aimed at preventing galactic anarchy and rescuing the universe? I mean, come on, what else would you expect from a Star Trek tale? (The heroic hologram would make Captain Picard very happy.)
Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway (the actual one, not a hologram) took over as commanding officer after the holographic of Janeway made the ultimate sacrifice (also voiced by Kate Mulgrew).
Now that they have a captain who isn’t a robot, the crew of the Protostar can finally go ahead as a unit (with apologies to holograms in any solar system).
They may not have graduated from Starfleet Academy, but Hologram Janeway’s Protostar cadets ended up with something much better. The crew’s heroic actions in protecting the other Starfleet ships in the solar system led to them all being promoted to warrant officers.
Because of their newfound status as officers, our heroes can accompany the original Janeway to a parallel dimension in an effort to rescue Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran). In order to accomplish their mission, Janeway hints that they will need “something larger.”
The only way to find out if that “something bigger” is a shipping upgrade is to watch Season 2 of Star Trek: Prodigy. The entire first season, consisting of twenty episodes, is currently available on Paramount Plus for streaming.

In Star Trek: Prodigy, the U.S.S. Protostar, an experimental ship, is sent on a mission across the galaxy. The Diviner, a despotic ruler, is on the hunt for the ship when it becomes marooned. With the help of a hologram of Kathryn Janeway, these young students, led by the slightly conceited Dal, are slowly but surely gaining knowledge.
The last time we saw the intrepid bunch of “Star Fleet Cadets,” they had just defeated the Diviner, the Diviner’s daughter (who had become an ally of the crew) had lost her memory, and they had just learned that the former captain of the Protostar was none other than Chakotay. That implies the fate of Star Trek: Prodigy depends on answering our questions about what happens to the Voyager crew. It’s not just the movie itself that leaves us with questions; the trailer does, too.
The actual Janeway (well, we have to say it now) can be seen pursuing the Protostar in part of the promotional film released by Paramount+.
