Back in 2019, when Chris Tucker claimed he was still discussing a fourth Rush Hour movie starring Jackie Chan, it seemed like the film would actually get made.
Although this was the closest a fourth film has come to production before, it was still the first time. In October 2017, Chan said that he and the script’s writer had reached an agreement, and in February 2018, Tucker indicated that he, too, was on board.
Spoiler alert: production on that was slated to begin in 2018, but that clearly didn’t happen. But there was more in store for the fans after Tucker posted a photo of the two stars holding up four fingers.
Shortly after this Instagram post, Chan’s management business issued a statement saying that the star has not accepted to star in Rush Hour 4, seemingly putting us back at the beginning.

Since then, we haven’t heard anything new about a possible fourth film, so you may take a stab at guessing whether or not it will happen.
That being said, here’s where things are at with Rush Hour 4 and why you shouldn’t expect anything any time soon.
Rush Hour 4 Potential Release Date
While the actual release date of the fourth film cannot be determined until production begins, past films suggest that we may expect it to hit theatres in late summer.
The original Rush Hour was released on September 18, 1998; its sequel was released on August 3, 2001; and its third sequel was released on August 10, 2007.
It’s highly doubtful that production on the fourth picture will begin any time soon, putting the earliest possible release date in 2023. So, at the earliest, we could expect it in the summer of 2024. Click here to watch Rush Hour 3
Nonetheless, you shouldn’t rely on it. keep reading to know the cast of the Rush Hour 4.
Who Will Be Returning For Rush Hour 4?
Our best guess at this time is that Chief Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) and Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) will be back together again.
For the fourth film to be made after so much time has passed, but with just one of the potential plots being developed, would be a bit of a mind-scratcher.
Only Chan and Tucker are guaranteed to return from the original trilogy, therefore there is little room for cameos from other characters. Tzi Ma, who played Ambassador Solon Han in the previous two films, might return for a third.
Soo-Yung Han, Solon Han’s daughter, appeared in both the first and third films; however, she was portrayed by Julia Hsu (Rush Hour) and Zhang Jingchu (The Last Emperor) (Rush Hour 3).
In case you were wondering, no, you won’t be seeing any of the cast members from the canceled TV show.

Do not count on Brett Ratner to reprise his role as director, though. He directed the first three films, but in 2017 he faced sexual harassment claims from Olivia Munn, Natasha Henstridge, and four others. He refuted every charge against him.
Warner Bros., who distributed the trilogy via New Line Cinema, said in April 2018 that it will not extend its co-financing or first-look deals with Ratner or his firm, RatPac-Dune Entertainment, as a result of the claims (via Variety). What we thing about plot of this movie, see below.
Synopsis Of Rush Hour 4
In October 2017, Chan stated that the writing for “Rush Hour 4” was nearing completion and that if a sequel did occur, it would come down to Tucker agreeing on the premise.
“For the last seven years, we’ve been turning down the script, turning down the script,” Chan said at the time, Yesterday, we just agreed. The script probably at the end of this month will have a second draft, and next year, probably [we will] start. I hope — if Chris Tucker agrees.”
However, the storyline is now sketchy at best. We have no idea what the future holds for him in the ‘Rush Hour Series.’
If/when we learn anything concrete regarding the story, we’ll post an update.
