A royal reunion that has been 26 years in the making is featured in the next film in Disney’s Descendants series. Newly cast as King Charming in the Disney+ movie (currently titled Descendants: The Rising of Red) is Paolo Montalban.
This is already thrilling news, but when you think that Brandy Norwood will be playing Cinderella, you realize just how much more so. In 1997, Brandy Norwood and Ricardo Montalban starred as Cinderella and Prince Charming, respectively, in an iconic production for ABC’s Wonderful World of Disney.
The Disney+ synopsis for Descendants: The Rising of Red reads-
“Takes spectators through the rabbit hole to the hostile unincorporated area of Wonderland, a wonderful, enigmatic place made famous by Alice in Wonderland.”
Red, the Queen of Hearts’ defiant daughter, and Chloe, Cinderella’s perfectionist daughter, are the two protagonists of this film. While Chloe and Red are complete opposites, they must work together to repair the horrific event that drove Red’s mother on her villainous path when the oppressive Queen of Hearts incites a coup against Auradon.
Starring Kylie Cantrall as Red, Malia Baker as Chloe, Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts, China Anne McClain, and China A. Dara Reneé as Uliana, Morgan Dudley as Ella (Little Cinderella), Joshua Colley as Hook, Melanie Paxson as the Fairy Godmother, Jeremy Swift as Principal Merlin, and Leonardo Nam as The Hatter. The movie has not yet been given a premiere date.
