The family has revealed that Robert Blake died at 89 after a long struggle with heart illness.
Robert Blake had a nearly six-decade career in Hollywood, appearing in films such as “Treasure of the Sierra Madre” with Humphrey Bogart and “In Cold Blood” with John Forsythe. A handful of studio westerns also featured him in leading roles under the alias Bobby Blake.
Who Is Robert Blake?
In the ’70s, he starred in a four-season ABC series called Baretta as undercover NYPD officer Tony Baretta. His career was destroyed when he was arrested for the murder of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, solicitation of murder, conspiracy, and particular circumstances of lying in wait in the early 2000s.
Her murder is still unsolved, even though he was acquitted of requesting a former stuntman with whom he had worked on Baretta to kill Bakley by a jury. Named initially Michael James Gubitosi, Robert Blake entered the world on September 18, 1933, in Nutley, New Jersey.
Although Blake’s birth certificate lists James Gubitosi as his father, he would later learns that James’ brother Tony had an affair with his mother. He claims his childhood was marked by physical abuse and neglect, including frequent isolation in a closet and infrequent food and care from his parents.
James started a family act called The Three Hillbillies, which included Blake and his half-brother and half-sister. They performed in parks and on sidewalks. A drunken rendition of “Show Me the Way to Go Home” was written and performed by him when he was just two years old.
He moved to Los Angeles with his family when he was four years old and immediately got a job as an extra in an Our Gang film by MGM Studios. A young actor once had to say, “Confidentially, it smells,” but he fumbled the word “confidentially,” and the line had to be rewritten.
According to Daily Mail, Blake got the director’s attention by pulling on his pant leg, delivering the line, and was cast. As Bobby Blake, he went on to play a wide range of child roles, notably alongside Robert Woods in Rin Tin Tin and Humphrey Bogart in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.
Despite this, he continued to have issues at home and was bullied in high school, leading him to start drinking and using drugs frequently.

His daughter Denilah, who is now married to author Gregg Hurwitz, and son Noah were born during his 20-year marriage to Sondra Blake Kerr. Rose was born to him and his second wife, Bonny Lee Bakley.

Robert Blake Was Charged With Murder For Killing His Wife
In 2001, Robert Blake’s daughter said she didn’t care if her father shot and killed her mother, Bonny Lee Bakley. Once hailed as one of the best actors of his day, Blake is now more well-known as the accused killer in a murder case stranger than anything he ever acted on screen.
His wife, Bakley, was discovered dead in front of a Studio City restaurant on May 4, 2001; he was tried for murder the following day and declared not guilty. In 2019, Rose Lenore Blake opened up to the media for the first time about her childhood and her harrowing journey toward forgiveness and reconciliation with her father after her mother’s untimely death.
Robert’s daughter, who is 19 years old at the interview, talks about getting photographed by the paparazzi while cheering at her high school. She felt “distanced” from her classmates because of her bouts of depression and anxiety.

A civil jury agreed with Bakley’s family that he was responsible for her death many months after his conviction. He was ordered to pay $30 million in restitution for her wrongful death. This verdict left him bankrupt.
