As a young player, Robert Mak played for Machester City from 2004 to 2008 and Slovan Bratislava from 1997 to 2004. He moved up to the Manchester City Reserves, but he was never given the opportunity to play with the first team.
Mak committed to a three-year deal with Nurnberg on June 11, 2010. He netted his first Bundesliga goal against Kaiserslautern on November 20, 2010, during a 1-3 loss. He made 77 appearances overall and scored six goals.
The Greek Super League team PAOK and he inked a three-year deal on July 19, 2014. Mak was moved to Zenit St. Petersburg on July 22, 2016, for a reported €3.5 million.
