Kathleen Johnson Eyring, the wife of President Henry B. Eyring, Second Counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2023, in Bountiful, Utah. At the time of her passing, she was 82 years old. Read the full post below:
From Which Illness Was Kathleen Eyring Suffering From?
Kathleen had dementia, a condition characterized by memory loss. As Kathleen’s memory began to deteriorate, President Eyring took care of her, frequently taking her to his office so she could read and relax while he was at a meeting.
Although the family found the situation challenging, they remember that as Kathleen aged, her memory loss grew worse. As she struggled with memory loss, she abruptly passed away. Their family members have expressed their sorrow at Henry B. Eyring’s wife’s passing on social media.

Kathleen’s Journey of Faith and Conviction
Kathleen was born to J. Cyril and LaPrele Lindsay Johnson in San Francisco, California, on May 11, 1941. Her family and friends remember her as an outgoing, lively young woman who loved life and excelled in both athletics and academics while serving as the tennis team captain in high school, president of the student body, and valedictorian.
After graduating from high school, Kathleen pursued her education at the University of California, Berkeley, where she developed a stronger commitment to her beliefs and her testimony of the good news of Jesus Christ.
She was attending summer school in Boston in 1961 when a young Harvard student named Henry Bennion Eyring watched her at a devotional she attended. For many years, Kathleen diligently carried out a variety of formal Church tasks, including instructing Sunday school classes, serving as a visiting teacher, and producing a newsletter for her congregation.

Her quiet, less formal, but no less powerful, ministering to others is another thing for which she will be remembered. The gifted writer Kathleen offered editorial guidance to Henry throughout his professional and Church service.
She later recorded official minutes for the monthly get-togethers with the other spouses of General Authorities. In addition, Kathleen created scripts for family gatherings, contributed to the co-publication of a monthly family newsletter, and kept a journal of family memories.
