Robert was arrested for the 2002 murder of his wife. The man who served as his bodyguard was also arrested and is being questioned about this. The estate of Bonnie Lee sued Blake in 2005 for wrongful death in a California civil court, and the judge sided with the estate. It was discovered that Robert had tried to enlist the help of a former stuntman and others to murder his wife.

Despite facing the death penalty for his actions, Blake pleaded not guilty. Robert was released from jail after being found not guilty on all charges. The prosecution had no evidence linking him to the murder weapon, and he was not carrying any gunpowder when the shot was fired.
