By 1964, Simon had already written, recorded, and released more than 30 songs. These tracks, however, were only distributed by smaller record companies. Simon and Garfunkel joined Columbia Records in the early part of 1964. Simon and Garfunkel’s debut album, Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M., was released in October 1970. In October of 1966, the duo dropped their third studio album titled “Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme.” After the release of January 1970’s “Bridge over Troubled Water,” their fifth and final studio album, they split up.
However, they did work together again on occasion. Simon’s second studio album as a solo artist, titled simply “Paul Simon,” was released that same year. In 1975, he released his fourth solo studio album, “Still Crazy After All These Years,” which quickly climbed to the top of the Billboard Pop Albums chart in the United States.
The musician returned with “One-Trick Pony” on Warner Bros. Records after an almost five-year sabbatical. After winning Album of the Year in 1987, Paul Simon’s “Graceland” went on to win Record of the Year at the 1988 Grammys. The album was added to the National Recording Registry after selling over 16 million copies around the world.
Over the course of his career, Simon published 14 separate studio albums; his most recent, “In the Blue Light,” came out in 2018. Five studio albums, thirteen compilation albums, four live albums, and numerous extended plays were published during his tenure with Simon & Garfunkel. Simon is a gifted musician, singer, and composer who has won 16 Grammy Awards for his own and other people’s albums.
