As Season 11 of Chicago Fire progresses, viewers are trying to guess what will happen next. Both good and bad things have happened throughout Chicago Fire’s 200th episode: the main character Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) passed her exam and became a lieutenant, while the main character Lieutenant Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) died.
Miranda’s absence from Season 10 was noted by viewers in 2021. Her future has been bleak all during Season 11. After the shocking ending of Season 11, many viewers assumed that Kidd would be leaving Firehouse 51.
Is Miranda Rae Mayo Leaving Chicago Fire?
Kidd’s career had many ups and downs, and Miranda’s departure from the program in Season 10 was the final straw. “This is not something I am prepared for. However, I do believe that it is beneficial to cultivate detachment by fully embracing the transient character of life in a small subset of this business. And the way in which everything develops and morphs. So, whatever the outcome, I can say that this has been a truly life-altering event for me. However, it’s best to be prepared for anything at all times.”
The good news is that Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas revealed to TVLine in November 2021 that Kidd’s return to the program was always on the cards. Kidd made a brief appearance in the Season 10 winter finale, surprising her now-husband Severide (Taylor Kinney) at their apartment. When she returned to Firehouse 51 in the January 2022 winter premiere, the happy reunion continued.
Fans were wondering if she was staying with the squad for good or if she would bail out again. Thankfully, Derek assured TVLine in an interview that he wouldn’t be leaving the show any time soon in December of 2021.
Ahead of the Season 10 winter debut, he dropped a hint about Stella Kidd’s return to Firehouse 51 and all the repercussions it would have: “Yes, she’s back for good, but she has a lot of explaining to do.”
What Happened To Stella Kidd In The Chicago Fire Winter Premiere of Season 11?
Kidd remained with the show for the remainder of Season 10 and is back for Season 11 of Chicago Fire. Fan speculation that her time as Kidd might be coming to an end was heightened by the season 11 fall finale. Kidd and 51 rookies Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) get into a sticky situation in the episode “Nemesis.”
In order to aid a citizen who has been injured by a grenade, the firefighters join the S.W.A.T. team. Severide immediately arrives at the scene to protect his wife from the explosion. To make matters worse, he arrives just in time to see Kidd and Carver enter the house in response to orders to defuse the grenade and save everyone within.
Severide’s world is rocked when he watches his wife throw herself in front of a grenade to protect them. Kidd’s survival through the explosion was never confirmed, and the episode concluded without resolution for the pair.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Derek explained that the cliffhanger was a means to break the pattern of Kidd and Severide spending most of their time apart.
According to Derek, “we’ve done a bunch of cliffhangers when Severide was in danger.” In fact, the most striking images are of him trapped inside a sinking boat on Lake Michigan. We intended to reverse the situation, with Kidd on the beach and Severide on the outside of a terrifying phone call with no way to intervene. However, Derek doesn’t mention how much it has shaken them up as a couple.
Actually, in Season 11 Episode 10 “Something for the Pain,” both Kidd and Carver make it through the blast, with Carver faring better than Kidd. Kidd, on the other hand, is struggling to breathe because of a serious shrapnel wound. She’s at the point where surgery is required. However, a time leap of three weeks inside the episode reassures us that Kidd not only lives but returns to Area 51 in full form.
