Busta Rhymes Lauded Contemporary Artists in His Address- Busta Rhymes offered a shout-out to his six children while accepting the prize. He also recalled that after the breakup of the rap trio, he was afraid to release solo projects because he did not want to expose his children to the pressure.
The Grammy nominee said he was “scared” when the rap group disbanded in 1994 because he “never” intended to be a solo artist.
“I ain’t like the responsibility of making a full song. I’m good with the getting to the 16 bars, busting everybody’s a** and getting up out of here. So, I got kicked out of the group, and I was scared. “
Despite his connections, he finally tried to appear in other musicians’ songs. He claimed he hung around in recording studios overnight, acting like he had worked there, giving weed to the musicians, and even coming up with a rap verse.
“And when they asked me what was I doing, I said, ‘Let me go in the booth and do it.’ I ain’t telling you my rhyme until you let me in the booth, and I go in the booth and I spit,” he continued.
But musicians gave him back their lyrics and notified his management team:
“Yo, send that invoice for five ground, send that one for ten grand, send that one for 15 grand. $30-40,000 a week, I don’t have to split up with anybody in the group. I liked that. Long story short, by default, I pioneered the feature.”
He praised his musician pals for their understanding and stressed there should be no fighting among rappers.
He added-
“We’re gonna stop that. We’re gonna love each other, and we gonna get to this mone.”
