Alan Alda is an accomplished actor, director, writer, and campaigner from the United States. Alda, a New York native born on January 28, 1936, is famous for his role as Hawkeye Pierce on the long-running TV series “MAS*H.” Seven Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe were among the many honors he has garnered.

From its original airing in 1972 to its cancellation in 1983, “MAS*H” entertained audiences with its blend of medical comedy and drama. There was a lot of interest in the play because it was based on the real-life experiences of medical workers during the Korean War. Alda portrayed Hawkeye Pierce, the witty chief surgeon of the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital.
The success of his show was mainly due to the positive reception he received for his performance. It’s worth noting that Alda has also been a successful filmmaker and writer. His filmography includes such titles as “Sweet Liberty,” “Betsy’s Wedding,” and “The Four Seasons,” all of which he directed and wrote. Who Is Alan Alda’s Wife?
Alan Alda has won numerous awards over his impressive career, including six Emmys and the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. It’s just as remarkable that he’s been married to Arlene Alda for so many years.
The M*A*S*H actor and his future wife bonded over a piece of rum cake that had fallen to the floor at a friend’s dinner party. They were the only ones who didn’t hesitate to pick up a fork and dig in. Alan corroborated the meet-cute story and added his remembrance of their first encounter after it went popular on Twitter in August 2021.

It was after eating the rum cake off the floor that the two of them became inseparable, he wrote. “But even before that, I was charmed by her when I overheard her laughing at my jokes from the far end of the table. The word “Ha” was all she needed to hook me.”
In a 2015 interview with the New York Times, Arlene detailed her recollection of that night. There was “amazing chemistry” between them since “he was a kindred spirit who was also hilarious,” she told the media. “Being with him that evening was a lot of fun and a pleasure. No Manhattan boys dated Bronx girls. It was assumed that. The journey was too long. It was in the Bronx that he dropped me off at my residence. Something that never happens.”
Less than a year later, on March 15th, 1957, the couple tied the knot. They multiplied their family by three with subsequent births and are now delighted grandparents to eight.
They’ve had their ups and downs, but that’s to be expected in a long marriage. Alan’s announcement in 2018 that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease three years earlier did not diminish their closeness, rather it served to enhance it.
At the Same Time, the Next Year actor told PEOPLE in 2019 that his marriage was the thing for which he felt the most gratitude.
We’re still in that puppy-love phase,” he remarked. “The truth is, I have never been one to make preparations for the future. A lot of what I do in life is improvised. I work with what I have at the moment.”
